Cathy, from Brazil
Hi!
Well, I'm Catarina, I'm a literary student from a French school in São Paulo, Brazil. I love to learn, and I wish to go to a university in France, if I manage to have good results in my Bac -an exam we have to pass in our last two years at school and that enables us to go to college.
As you may have guessed because of my choice of study, I love reading and writing. I have a whole bunch of authors that I love, but they would be way to long to list here. I'm particularly fond of fiction (Lord of the Rings, and, shamefully, Harry Potter) but also much more serious books such as Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence (just finished this one, it's really amazing), and The Scarlet Letter or Wuthering Heights.
I also listen to a lot of music, and my taste is extremely eclectic (like my taste in books) and goes from classic to rock passing by a bit of New Age, but I have a soft spot for rock, and I think my favorite band is The Cranberries (they are Irish, by the way).
Other than these two very enjoyable activities, I practise fencing (which is a kind of duel with swords). It's not very well known here in Brazil, but I think that it's much more practicedin Europe . We have, however, sent three athletes to the Olympic games, two of whom women! For us, here in Brazil, that was a huge victory! And I was very happy, considering that one of the girls that went trains with me.
Anyway, I've been three times Brazilian champion in my category (that changes a bit once I'm fighting against older people, but still, I think I can hold my own). Fencing is really one of the things I can't go without, it' s a real passion of mine, which shows by the intense training I undergo every week. I put an image below, so that you guys can see what it looks like, if you happen not to know what I'm talking about.
Another detail about me - I study Greek and Latin in school, as optional subjects. That's pretty cool! I really love these things. They aren't very useful maybe, in practical life, but I feel it is interesting to know the origin of most of the languages spoken in the world today.
Anyway, I think I've rambled long enough, I'm sure someone wanted that much information about me, so...
Bye!
Cathy

Hi Cathy,
My name is Dima. You're a very amazing girl. I read your letter several days ago. But it's taken me so long to get back to you, I've been very busy with my classes. You know I find fencing one of the best kind of competition. My congratulation to you. I don't like to read books , but I've seen "Lords of the Rings" in the cinema. It's one of my favorite film. Well , I'd better sign off now becourse I'm supposed to be in my class in a minute.(I have 3 more lessons).
